Sthreenidhi Mahila Bank

Government of Andhra Pradesh had restricted the operations of micro finance institutions in the state due to allegations of usurious interest rates and unethical practices followed for loan repayment. In the absence of active micro finance operations, micro credits for SHGs had become limited. Sthreenidhi has been set up as an alternative to micro finance institutions offering loans to SHGs at nominal interest rates. Sthree Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation is promoted by Mandal Mahila Samakhyas and Federations of Self Help Groups (SHGs) at Mandal level, in association with the Government of Andhra Pradesh with an initial equity of Rs. 1000 crores in order to address the credit needs that cannot be addressed under the SHG-bank linkage schemes. . .

Credit limit allocated to each Mandal ranging from Rs. 25 lakhs to Rs. 2 crores depending on the performance of the SHG federation at Mandal level. SHG federation in turn evaluates the performance of the Village Organisations (VOs) and allocates credit limit ranging from Rs. 2 lakhs to Rs. 10 lakhs. VOs are allowed to sanction loans within the given credit limits to their members after due diligence. Amount transferred to the SHG account using the IVRS mode.
